Connie Nelson: Common sense tells us we have to stop these shootings

I salute the two heroes who stopped the killer in Texas. I have a legal concealed weapon permit, and I will be keeping my guns. But we have to have common-sense gun regulations. When it is legal for a person on the “no fly” list to buy a gun, when a person with a history of mental illness can have a gun we have a problem.

The stats show that we have a mass shooting on average of once a day. None of us are safe. Will new common-sense regulations stop the killings? Maybe not, but we have to try to stop this madness. At this rate many of us will have a friend or family member killed or injured.

Stop yelling that the government is trying to take your guns; that is insane. The shooter in Texas should never had been able to buy a gun because of his domestic violence conviction. Obviously, there needs to be a national database. Agreed we cannot stop all of these shootings, but we have to try.
