Nelson Turner: Trump had more power when he was TV producer

I think that the president misunderstands the power of his office. What he doesn’t understand is that he actually has less authority as president than as a reality TV star and producer. As a TV producer he can pretty much hire and fire anyone if they do not do what he tells them to do. However, he cannot fire the Supreme Court or Congress when they do not do his bidding. This has to be driving him crazy.

And ...

When Donald Rumsfeld was Secretary of Defense he cryptically said something along the lines of there are things we do not know and things we do not know we do not know. What he said could be applied to Congress’s thinking about the tech companies and their inability to stop Russia’s use of social media to influence our election. Just like 9/11, the idea that it could happen never occurred to them.

You do not look for things that you cannot conceive as possible.

Nelson Turner, Modesto
