Marianne Villalobos: López best choice for Modesto City School board
I support Adolfo López for District 7 Modesto City Schools board trustee. Adolfo attended schools in District 7 and graduated from Modesto High School. His goals were to complete his education and return to Modesto to serve his community. In high school, he worked with Congregations Building Communities (CBC) promoting parent involvement and Get Out the Vote (GOTV) efforts.
Modesto High has long been a polling place, but voter turnout was traditionally low. Thanks to the GOTV efforts of Adolfo and others, on the first Tuesday of Nov ember, 2008, the polling place was full with voters lining up out the door.
In high school, Adolfo stated his priorities: making our community and nation a place where we accept our differences while acknowledging our equality and use our resources to improve our communities. Adolfo is fulfilling his high school pledge. A university graduate, he works and lives in Modesto. Understanding the struggles he faced as a student and the positive experiences that shaped him, he will provide leadership as an MCS trustee to support this generation of students.
While so many of our children move away, it is encouraging to see others, like Adolfo, return to become our new leaders.
