Mike Killingsworth: What are big gun owners compensating for?
The issue behind the issue of gun ownership and the 2nd Amendment is that to many of both sexes, guns are strong phallic symbols. Don’t get me wrong here, I own a security shotgun, so I am not against self-protection of my home and family. I just think that those who want to own lots of guns and ever-more powerful guns such as AR-15s and AK47s and M16s, armor-piercing bullets and all other kinds of heavy firepower semi- or fully automatic weapons are simply caught up in the old high school version of “hey, mine’s bigger than yours,” followed by, “please don’t emasculate me by taking away my manhood/womanhood.”
