Rev. Leroy Egenberger: We pledge to a republic that guarantees justice for all
Both our Pledge of Allegiance and our National Anthem contain phrases that go shamefully unheeded. Allegiance is “to the Republic,” not to the flag, and “with liberty and justice for all.” Our anthem contains the phrase, “home of the free, and land of the brave.” Can we say that we have liberty, justice and freedom for all? Pause to reflect, and “take a knee.”
