Doug Hutchins: Our weapons keep the government honest
Once again the 2nd Amendment will come under attack due to recent upsetting events. The talk will go down the path of is this or that weapon really needed for hunting or self defense. I want to remind all that the Bill of Rights was written soon after the war for independence. The British government had been our government. We chose to rebel for very good reasons.
The Bill of Rights was written so as to not to repeat the circumstances requiring us to rebel against our government again. The 2nd Amendment starts off with “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State ...” Our forefathers saw the need to keep our government honest.
During the war for independence we had the rifle. The British had muskets. The rifle was the F-16 of the day. If you don’t believe our government needs to be kept honest, I invite you to do a search on the internet to find the unedited Zapruder video. And then ask why was it edited in the first place.
