Sharon Roman: Those getting driver’s licenses should also learn English
Re “Driver’s license demand surges” (Page A1, April 4): I read the article about the DMV getting flooded with illegals getting their licenses. That is a good thing, but what disturbed me most was that not one thing was mentioned about having proof of car insurance. To my knowledge, you have to have it to get your license. I could imagine how many of these people are all ready on the road without a license or insurance.
We are already paying their way with the food stamps and WIC with our taxes. Then you go on the phone and the person on the other side wants to know if we want English. What is going on? This is America, and we speak English. If we were to go to their country to live, wonder if we would get food stamps and other handouts. We would have to learn their language. We should not have to speak your language to communicate with you. Please give us the respect and learn English.
