Bruce R. Frohman: Fox loads ‘news’ with opinion; most are not fooled
Recent stories about Fox News being the most-watched news organization in the country are pointless. As the only network that represents partisan Republican views to the exclusion of all others, Fox leads by default. The other networks split non-Republican viewers, so the majority of TV news audience does not watch Fox.
Assertions the Fox network is fair and balanced are dubious. Fox injects opinion within news reports. Where does the news end and opinion begin? Clever talking heads reach spurious conclusions by stretching facts beyond the evidence. Fox viewers passionately support the network because they are told what they want to hear, not because the information is always accurate.
Fox ideology is not truly conservative. Conservatives don’t advocate for war, foreign intervention, government shutdown, or support any form of welfare – including corporate welfare.
Fox viewers are entitled to their opinions. However, the rest of us are not stupid or liberal because we occasionally disagree. No one has a monopoly on truth or political correctness. Personal attacks, arrogance, condescension and rudeness are not OK. Modesto Bee, please continue your campaign for civility.
