Jennifer Bush: Yes, pit bulls are aggressive; one attacked her pet

Re “Pit bulls not aggressive breed” (Letters, March 25): Are you kidding me? Pit bulls not aggressive? I share your view that all breeds have their bad apples, but I have the proof!

My Corgi and I were attacked by a neighborhood pit bull. There is nothing like the fear of seeing your small dog in the jaws of a pit bull being shaken to pieces. By the grace of God, three neighbors heard my screams and came running armed with shovels. The pit bull finally released him, grudgingly, and we rushed my little dog to an emergency veterinary hospital. So often we hear it’s the owners or the training that makes them aggressive. I’m sorry, this pit bull was a family pet.

I now walk with a golf club, an air horn and a cell phone. According to animal control, most of their calls involve pit bulls. Teach your dog to run home! This is not an easy feat. But it could save their life and yours. Not aggressive, my rear end!
