Chuck Boday: Yes, providing fair, cost-effective medical care is complicated
Health care, who knew it was so complicated? A now famous quote by a man of questionable intelligence. Unfortunately the folks in Washington are unwilling to take on the pharmaceutical industry, insurance companies and other segments of the medical industry to control cost.
Democrats failed to do it with Obamacare the Republicans aren’t addressing it with their Trumpcare (or Ryancare or whatever they’re calling it). Costs will continue to go up until they figure out a way to regulate this out-of-control trainwreck.
Medicare can’t negotiate drug prices? Ludicrous! Hospital’s can charge whatever they want unless you have insurance, then you can get a discounted rate (look at your statement of benefits most times it’s 90 percent). I realize they spend billions in campaign contributions and they expect something in return, but soon – very soon – the average Joe American won’t be able to afford health care in any form. So sad, as our esteemed president likes to say!
