Rita F. Silva: Liberals say things conservatives never would about a president, first kids
I am appalled at the behavior of the liberal people and press; evidently, anything is acceptable. A Republican congressman is shot by a Bernie Sanders supporter and it is on Page 5 of the newspaper; had it been a Democrat, it would have been Page 1 news for days. A liberal comedian holds up a bloody replica head of President Trump and a play in New York City depicts him being killed. If any of things had been about Obama, there would be hell to pay.
The Clinton and Obama children were off limits but with 11-year-old Barron Trump, anything goes and I hear little criticism from liberals. I think that it is time for all of you to take a good look in the mirror and ask yourself if this is who you really are, and if the answer is yes, you should be ashamed of yourselves.
You supported Obama because you believed in what he was doing, and that is your right. It is also our right to support Donald Trump for the same reason, but you don’t think people who don’t believe what you do have that right. Freedom of speech is the right of all Americans, not just liberals.

Editor’s note: President Obama’s life was repeatedly threatened even before he became president, requiring Secret Service protection at an earlier stage than any previous presidential candidate. Obama was hung in effigy hundreds of times, with video of the faux lynchings often appearing on YouTube. Conservative singer Ted Nugent, while performing, threatened to kill Obama and candidate Hillary Clinton. Rush Limbaugh famously disparaged a 12-year-old Chelsea Clinton and Amy Carter. The Obama girls were vilified and ridiculed, most famously by viewers of Fox News. Host Sean Hannity attacked Obama’s daughters on several occasions, often decrying the cost of protecting them. A staff member of a Tennessee congressman once called the Obama girls disparaging names on social media while a West Virginia mayor and staff member did the same to Michelle Obama.
