Charles Perine: Republicans shouldn’t have to pay extra because of liberal threats
Re “$68,461 Coulter ‘bill’ given to GOP leader” (Page 3A, June 14): Emerson Drake gave Jim DeMartini a bill for police services for the Ann Coulter event. He then states a local music promoter, Chris Ricci, was billed for police services when he had X-Fest.
That event shut down a huge portion of downtown Modesto, blocking public access to me, a tax-paying citizen. The Republican Party had a fund-raising event that didn’t even block the sidewalks, and Drake feels they should pay for the service of the Modesto police department.
I worked at a local hospital for the 15 years of X-Fest. We received many patients as a direct result of X-Fest. Should the citizens bill Ricci? The Coulter event needed extra police only because the damage the liberals caused in Berkeley for Milo’s event. Our police chief had the spine to stand up and say this won’t happen in Modesto. Thanks to the police presence, there were no injuries or damage to property. Two comments for Emerson Drake: You can borrow my copy of “ In Trump We Trust” and you can’t fix stupid.
