Jose Tovar: What does added 10th Street Place security say about us? That we’re criminals?

Re “Security measures being added at Tenth Street Place” (Front Page, May 25): Exactly why are security measures needed at Tenth Street Place? The first time I walked into Tenth Street Place, and was asked if I was carrying any weapons, I almost laughed at the ridiculous query. At the same time I considered the question an insult and I wanted to curse the person who questioned me. This building is not an airport and it is certainly not a war zone. So what is the justification for this unnecessary harassment and additional expense to the taxpayer?

Your so-called security measures indicate to the world that the citizens in this part of the country are criminally inclined and are untrustworthy and I would respond that is an irrational notion. I urge you to re-evaluate the concept to be certain that these extreme security measures are absolutely necessary.

Jose Tovar, Modesto
