Dean Jepson: Trans Pacific Partnership will overrule American safeguards
The highly secretive “negotiations” for the Trans Pacific Partnership will likely lead to the end of what remains of America’s spiraling middle class. We’ve lost 60,000 factories with millions of jobs since NAFTA was enacted, so competing with southeast Asian countries with minimum wages of 28 cents should complete our transition to a consumer-only nation.
This “partnership” will block “buy American only” strategies; overrule American laws regarding labor, environment, food safety, financial regulation and the cost of medicine while continuing to send millions of jobs overseas. There are 600 corporate reps involved are hiding the text from U.S. politicians, governors and the media.
The Bond-movie scenario of world domination is coming to fruition, thanks to the greed and short-sightedness of corporations. Millionaire members of Congress are hardly in the dire situation many young American workers are facing. Unfettered, global capitalism will change local political landscapes. The freedoms of voters, workers and womenwill continue to narrow as states become tribal.
The American Dream of working hard, taking risks and moving up has been pushed aside. Now, those born into wealth can pay/elect people to say they did those noble things and rail against any form of wealth redistribution. Our forefathers would hardly be proud.
