Lawrence Martin: ISIS thugs care more about sex, power than religion
Recently, reliable sources, including a French reporter who was released by ISIS, have told similar stories. To most rank-and-file ISIS militants, ISIS is not about religion. In fact, the reporter claimed his captors did not even carry a Koran. It’s all about the most basic of human urges: sex, dominance, greed and power.
A current resident of the proclaimed capital of the “Caliphate” corroborated the reporter’s allegations. He claimed the majority of ISIS fighters who terrorize the city are obsessed with sex, money and internet video games – not religion. The horrifying acts they commit on the population in the guise of religious doctrine serve only one purpose – subjugation through dominance and terror to satisfy unchecked urges.
To define the movement through the prism of religion is wrong. ISIS is a cult. It is a collection of depraved, albeit well organized, and vicious thugs. It does not deserve the label of Islam. It will fail and the sooner the better.
