Steven Green: Shouldn’t have to give out a phone number to buy a pizza

Went to a chain pizza place on Yosemite. The girl asked me for my phone number. I asked her why do I have to give my phone number. She said it was so she could process the sale. I told her to forget it and walked out, saying I shouldn’t have to give out personal information just to buy a cheap pizza.

Then I went to another location of the pizza restaurant on Oakdale Road and had no problem. There is no reason the business needs my phone number.

With what is happening in the world today – unwanted phone calls, ID theft, etc. – we need to be more careful about giving out personal information. If you can’t even buy something without having to give out your phone number, something is wrong and we should turn around and leave. Giving out my phone number was not for my benefit; it was for theirs. It’s like they sell pizza to us, then sell our information to someone else.
