Mary Biglieri: People need to pay attention to government, read The Bee
I have been taking The Bee since I moved here in 1973. Lately I’ve been noticing fewer of my neighbors and friends have been subscribing to the paper. I think this is really a shame, since I am a retired teacher and firmly believe in reading and especially reading in depth about a subject, any subject – governmental, policies, business, sports, etc.
I am told by younger people that The Bee can be read online for a slight cost, and I believe this to be true. But how many online readers pursue an issue in depth? I love having the paper on my breakfast table and leisurely reading it while drinking my second cup of coffee. Fewer customers mean higher prices for the rest of us.
In the future will all news be online? I hope not. Our local government and businesses need to know that we care about what they are doing.
