David K. Ford: Current women’s fashions have ruined ‘girl watching’

Re “We’re not dressing to please you” (Letters, March 3): You don’t have to tell me twice!

Whatever happened to classy-looking, well-dressed women? As a 50-something, professional, red-blooded American male, I first started noticing around 15-20 years ago, women seemed to give up trying to look nice.

Today (especially here in the valley), it seems to be all about comfort and simplicity for the average gal. Workout clothes, sweats, pajamas and ripped jeans are the staples of today’s gals. “Styling” their hair means putting on a studded baseball cap and pulling their hair through the back of it. “Dressing up” means an ill-fitting pants suit with bra straps hanging out. Which may be fine for them, but it has completely ruined the fine art of “girl watching” for many of us guys. So ladies, go ahead and enhance your features with that new tattoo or those $200 torn jeans. Make a statement with your fuchsia-colored tresses. I’ll keep turning my head in disgust.
