Jim Pender: Pay for bags! Will we have to rent the shopping carts next?

It is ludicrous that we pass a law in California stating we are not to use plastic bags. Yet, if you look around Modesto, you will find them in use in certain stores. One city in California put a city ordinance into affect before the California law was passed, and they are still using plastic bags! The Glad Products Co. still makes plastic trash can liners. Reynolds Co. still makes both press and seal bags. If you don’t bring your own bags, the stores charge you for the bags used to bag us your groceries.

Pretty soon they will want you to rent the shopping cart you put your groceries in. Where does it stop? Probably when you have to pay to park in the grocery store’s parking lot.
