Ralph Carpenter: Thank God for the Modesto Gospel Mission

It’s been a year and a half, and now into another cold winter with nothing having been done by the Homeless Action Council to help the homeless. With the way they keep changing what they say is going to happen, a person could get the impression the “focus” we hear so much about is on preventing anything from actually getting done.

First it’s a donated site with multimillion dollar upgrades that was to be the “One Stop Center.” Now it’s a portable building to be located at the Salvation Army Shelter site. I can’t wait to hear what they come up with next. And a “low barrier” housing project that is pretty much dead in the water because of liability issues. People need to recognize what is fact and what is fiction within the stories we are being told.

The fact is, nothing’s being done. The fiction is what’s being said. All the while the story of Modesto’s homeless being in need continues.

Thank s to God above for the Modesto Gospel Mission. At least they act on what they see as being needed. God bless Kevin Carroll and his staff.

Ralph Carpenter, Modesto
