David Utecht: Three cheers for Oakdale High’s football team (from Sonora)

I am a former teacher at Sonora High School, 24 years. I filmed Sonora football games, home and away, for 18 years. I am well acquainted with the famous, or infamous, “Corral” in Oakdale. This year I would like to thank the Mustangs for three things they did. First, they played Sonora (11-1) in the very early season before Oakdale was really a team. I don’t think Sonora could have beaten them late, but we’ll never know because Sonora had a darned good team of their own. Playing early allowed Sonora to win one, which doesn’t happen very often. Second, Oakdale was able to get a very good running back from Central Catholic, which also doesn’t happen often. Central doesn’t lose players to other schools. And third, Oakdale beat Central Catholic. Sorry Roger (Canepa, Central Catholic coach).
