Shelly Scribner: Enough to make Lady Liberty break into tears

For those of us born in the 1940s there has never been a time without war. Cold war and hot wars and Vietnam; too many others with unheard of names. Now we are sending young women and men to fight in the civil wars of other countries. The climate changes with the poison weapons, the 1 percent of wealthy people think nothing of spending $1 million for one weapon. They cut education, health and food programs saying they cost too much.

It is strange that peace through war does not make any sense. And if billionaires think they will escape the climate changes, and that others will die instead, they are wrong. We are all in this world together. The lady in the New York harbor who says “give me your tired, your poor, your humble masses yearning to be free” is crying.
