Maria Buser: Why no positive images of Modesto on TV?

Re “Ambitious TV series casts Modesto in every town light.” (Page A1, March 1): I was very perturbed. I can’t think of a worst-case scenario to make our town the backdrop to. I’m appalled that it was accepted to buffer our “geographical inferiority complex,” as a basis to put us on the map. Personally, I’d rather wait for more positive offers than to stoop to that level of portraying this city in such a light. We have enough history to shun from. We need more highlights and portrayals about our agricultural heritage and other positive attributes. We have enough ghosts in the town. When traveling to other cities, I loathe hearing “ Oh, you’re from Modesto?!” as though it were a bad thing.
