Theodore Yates: We must work together to prevent killings like that of Pat Hutchings

Re “Police ID victim of fatal stabbing near downtown” (Page 4A, Nov. 29): Once again, as a concerned member of our community as well as a friend of Pat Hutchings, I can’t help but voice my opinion regarding all the signs that have been so obvious to anybody within the La Loma district out to Five Points and beyond. How could this inhumane act not be foreseen?

When do we come together as a community to demand safer streets, or possibly even band together as a unit and become part of the solution? Stare into some of the faces of these people scattered around our community like vultures waiting for a kill. My question is, who is next? Law enforcement is doing all they can in every way, but they need our help and until we help as a community what else can we expect? Who is next?

Pat was a cool OG, and he was a vet. You will truly be missed, Pat; may our prayers and blessings always be with you. Those responsible for Pat’s death, your judgment is yet to come, as you will truly see.

Theodore Yates, Modesto
