Pamela Sweeten: Water fight isn’t just farmers, it is for everyone
As the State Water Resources Control Board continues to assault our way of life; it is time to be heard. This is not a “farmer fight.” This requires all of us to join together. If you are a teacher, this affects your career. If your a truck driver, this affects your livelihood. If you’re a preacher, now is the time to inform your congregation of this issue.
Without water, valley schools will close because jobs will not be here and people will move to where the jobs are – hence, no students to teach. There will no products to move from farm to processing facilities to stores. And the churches will become empty as people move on. We cannot conserve enough water to make up for the grab the state water board is planning to take, and the most fertile land in the world will cease to produce. Twenty percent more now will undoubtedly become 30, 40, 50 and 60 percent in the future. Make a phone call, write a letter, get a sign, don’t sit on the sidelines.
Our livelihoods all depend on action today!
