Linda Lowe: Lots of ways to stay healthy once you’re past 60

Re “Stay upright, senior citizens” (Page 5B, Nov. 22): Thank you for the article by Claudia Buck regarding the necessity of maintaining physical activity to prevent the risk of debilitating falls. The information was well documented and offered senior citizens, and those who are not in that age group yet, multiple reasons and some of the means to remain active and healthy. In Stanislaus County, the Healthy Aging Association offers multiple opportunities for seniors to build muscle, improve balance and conquer the challenges that can lead to falls. Included are the “Young At Heart” strength-training, tai chi, low impact aerobics, and “A Matter of Balance” classes, as well as S.T.E.P.S. walking group at the Vintage Faire Mall.

All of these classes are available at various sites throughout the county and free for anyone over the age of 60. For more information, contact the Healthy Aging Association, 209 523-2800.
