Robert LeFevre: Two weeks later, Trump hasn’t assuaged any fears

Here are some after thoughts of after thoughts after a less-than civil and thoughtful election campaign. It boils down to blatant lies and hypocrisy dished out to the populace and happily scarfed down by people with no taste for honesty. Both candidates were at fault. However, by all independent fact-checkers, Trump won the lying trophy hands down.

Words do matter. I will not list the incredible, hurtful and demeaning rhetoric he spewed. To say later he did not mean it is hypocrisy on steroids. I am hopeful that for the first time in recorded history that a leopard can change its spots. I am, however, worried that he does not have the moxie to carefully analyze situations and think carefully about what he says. His motto appears to be “fire, aim, ready”.

Words matter. “Mean what you say and say what you mean” and do not be mean about it. Hyperbole of emotion void of factual basis that is shouted, tweeted or Facebooked enough takes on a malignant life of its own. I worry Trump is the embodiment of this cancer. The cure is civil discourse that requires modulation of tone, thoughtful attendance to facts and a willingness to listen to someone else’s point of view. It appears that two weeks after the election the leopard America elected is the one we will be fearful of for the next four years.
