Hugo Mendez: Pretty low for criminals to try to steal money meant for deputy’s widow
Re “Fake accounts sought Wallace family donations” (Page 3A, Nov. 17): People need to be taught the value of respect. This is unacceptable. Criminals need to get a job instead of stealing from communities. After Deputy Dennis Wallace was killed in the line of duty last weekend, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department had to warn citizens who wanted to donate money to his family that fake accounts have been created on the internet, pretending to help Wallace family. The Sheriff's Department also had to send out warnings that they will not be authorizing anybody to knock on doors for contributions nor sending out emails.
Where is the respect? If anyone happens to come across fake accounts on the internet asking for donations, they should be reported immediately. Do not allow criminals to take advantage of those who who are only trying to help.
