Mara Mullins: Is Bay Area being asked to give up some of its water for fish?

I’m just curious if any water from Hetch Hetchy Reservoir that goes to the Bay Area is “donated” by choice or force to saving Delta fish, or is the Valley the sole contributor? Outsiders are so generous with the valley’s water. I’m wondering if they are just as generous with the Bay Area’s water? In addition, when I traveled to Southern California last year for a wedding over Labor Day weekend, Pyramid Lake on the Grapevine was the fullest I’ve seen it in 15 years. There have been times when I couldn’t see the water line and then suddenly it’s full. How did that happen in a drought year?

Mara Mullins, Modesto

Editor’s note: In the most recent Supplemental Environmental Document, the state has included the entire Tuolumne River basin, including the City and County of San Francisco’s three reservoirs, in its demands for additional water to enhance fish survival.
