Bob Meyer: Good to remember that we all have immigrant roots
We celebrate this holiday with images of pilgrims and natives sharing a feast. We still have the feast, but we give little thought of the different immigrant societies that came together. The natives migrated here thousands of years prior to the pilgrims’ arrival, and then helped the ill-equipped new immigrants survive in a foreign land. Please remember that most of us have immigrant ancestors who came to this great country with hopes and dreams of improving their lives.
It is still a great country and immigration should not be such a decisive issue. Immigration has basically been flat for years and a wall will not stop a $100 ladder or $10 shovel in the hands of desperate people. When feasting on the cornucopia at your Thanksgiving table, give thanks to the hard-working migrant labor that helped grow your plentiful food. Happy Thanksgiving!
