Aldo Guzman: Jardine’s column brought more to Deputy Wallace’s death than a normal story

Re “We weep for slain deputy, but a killer does not care” (Front page, Nov. 14): Writer Jeff Jardine organized his story in a way that turned it into a personal story rather than just another no-emotion news report. The compassion he demonstrated toward the deceased’s family was remarkable and nice to see; perhaps the family can get some closure out of the article.

I know a few of Dennis Wallace’s relatives are from Escalon, and I know they are in a sad situation.

Jardine’s poetic article really put to shame the murderer. The fact Jardine kept on mentioning events that Deputy Wallace did outside of his regular duty, but then mentioning the killer’s careless behavior, made the article brilliant. The article is sad because of the execution of Deputy Wallace, but also projects a sense of guilt for the murderer. Listing all that Deputy Wallace would do or had planned to do made the column into more than just a story.
