Deanne Dalrymple: Bee disrespectful in criticizing OID recall proponents

Re “OID recall is unfair, should be voided” (Page 13A, Nov. 11): While everyone has the right to their own opinion, I strongly oppose the spreading of misinformation, especially when done with such obvious bias. According to the state’s Procedure for Recalling State and Local Officials, the recall notice must contain: “A statement, not over 200 words in length, of the reasons for the recall. A reason must be provided, but under Article II, Section 14(a) of the California Constitution, the sufficiency of this reason is not reviewable.”

Since the California Constitution states the reason for recall is not reviewable, your argument to the contrary holds no weight. This recall should be decided by the same population base that elected Linda Santos. We collected over twice as many signatures as votes Santos initially received. I take particular exception to your incendiary remarks. There was no “obvious subterfuge,” “sneak attack” or “underhanded double-dealing;” there was only the courage of 13 proponents willing to take on the anger of your biased newspaper, Santos and her supporters exercising our legal right to hold an elected official accountable and demand a recall election.

We followed the letter of the law and your comments to the contrary are both disrespectful and bordering on slander.
