Efren Martinez: Don’t forget to help others as we prepare for holidays

The mornings are cold and our nights are chilly. Even though we’ve been blessed with some pleasant daytime temperatures, it’s only a matter of time before the average daily high is around 52 degrees. Please be mindful of any four-legged stay cats who might be huddled under your car trying to keep warm from the heat of your engine before starting it up and or leaving for work. It’s also a good idea to make sure your heaters are heating, water pipes are covered and the batteries on your smoke alarms have been replaced along with your air filters.

Next, reach out to all the seniors in your life to make sure they and their homes are ready for the winter. While you’re at it, go through your closet to see if you have any gently used coats, jackets or blankets that you can donate to our Salvation Army. Happy Holidays, Modesto.
