Maria Esquivel: Bad enough Trump won, but he also won here

Am I disgusted by yesterday’s results? Yes! But I’m more disgusted in how our own community voted. Stanislaus county voted in favor of Donald Trump. We are an agriculture community. All the farmers in our area are beneficiaries of Latino workers. They are beneficiaries of cheap labor. How dare we, as a community, turn our backs on the people we desperately need?

How I wish all farm/dairy workers got together and boycotted the farmers who had Trump signs on their property. Voting for Trump, means agreeing with his racist, sexist remarks. Voting for Trump doesn’t mean you didn’t want another Clinton to win, it means you agree with all his negativity. How can you vote for Trump then turn right around and continue to hire Latinos, women, people with disabilities or anybody who doesn’t look like you?

I am disgusted. Maybe Trump being in office won’t affect me directly, but as a mother, woman, a proud Mexican and a proud U.S. citizen I can’t accept Trump as our leader. I will not accept what he stands for.
