Bruce R. Frohman: Measure L won’t be the last of the special interest tax plans

Thanks to all citizens who took the time to read the ballot arguments, think then vote on Measure L – the half-percent sales tax increase to fund various transportation projects in Stanislaus County.

Expect more proposals to raise the sales tax on the ballot in the future. As long as local leaders think taxpayers are willing to give up more hard-earned dollars, proposals similar to Measure L will continue to appear. The sales tax in California counties is already at or near 10 percent!

Bonds will also be floated that taxpayers must repay. (In Stanislaus County, five bonds appeared on some of this year’s property tax bills.)

Proponents spent about $800,000 in taxpayer money to create and promote Measure L, plus an unknown amount of special interest money. In opposition, I spent $0.00. Thanks to the citizens who supported my efforts.
