Jim Sterling: Press has many roles in America, including providing opinion

Re “Endorsements should be banned? That’s news to me” (Page 1B, Nov. 6): Sadly, Jeff Jardine’s column might highlight a flaw in our educational system. Are our students not taught the responsibilities of the Fourth Estate – or is it simply that there are those who choose to ignore the media’s role when it suits them? Our press might have its faults, but measured against the news media of the rest of the world, it is something of which we should be very proud.
