Andy Anderson: Stop texting-while-driving with a $1,000 fine

Every day in the news we continue to talk about cell phone use while driving. Millions of dollars have been spent educating the public to the dangers of talking – or, worse, texting – on your phone while driving. As we all have noticed, people just don’t care! The cellphone use and texting continues at an alarming rate. How do we stop it!

We must do the only thing people understand – hit them where it hurts, their wallets. Raise the fine and administration fees to $1,000, a straight-up fine that the courts cannot reduce or waive. If a driver fails to pay, their driver’s license is revoked until proof of correction has been made. If a driver fails to pay the fine, late fees will be assessed. Until violators are hit with a stiff fine, texting while driving will continue.
