Brandi LoForti: Taking so much water will wreak havoc on our Valley

Our Central Valley feeds 80 percent of the world with a safe domestic food source. No water, no food!

Without water to grow our food, we will be forced to consume food grown in other countries with little or no restrictions on pesticides and chemicals. We all need to oppose the State Water Resources Control Board’s proposal to unjustifiably increase unimpaired flows on the Tuolumne River. Such an increase in flows will have potentially irreversible negative effects on surface water availability, groundwater sustainability, jobs, income, tax base and the greater socioeconomic backbone of the region’s served by Modesto and Turlock irrigation districts.

I implore state water board staff and board members to give greater consideration to the benefits of non-flow measures before considering this unfounded and misguided flow-first proposal.

Brandi LoForti, Turlock
