Mike Killingsworth: Don’t be fooled by drug company propaganda, vote yes on 61

Remember those “death panels” that Sarah Palin promised if the Affordable Care Act was passed? I hate to admit it, but I’ll be darned if she wasn’t right. However, she turned out to be right for the wrong reasons. It is apparent that death panels are from a different source, namely the pharmaceutical corporations who have increased prices to an outrageous degree. People are literally suffering and in some cases dying because they cannot afford the medicines they need.

In her article, “Without Prop 61, our patients will continue to suffer” (Page 11A, Oct. 18), nurse Kellie Montoya does a good job laying out the causes and gives plenty of examples – namely Sovaldi, Vimovo, Dutoprol, Calcium EDTA and the EpiPen. The mafia has nothing on the drug companies: Pay our price or die in pain.

I just hope their campaign to prevent passage of Prop. 61 doesn’t find enough fools in California to vote against it. It seems stupid that it is illegal to import drugs at substantially lower prices from across the Canadian or Mexican borders. Guess who paid off the politicians to get that done. We can send them a little message by overwhelmingly passing Prop. 61.
