Steve Hall: Heath Flora won’t put up with lawlessness in the Capitol

The California Correctional Peace Officers Association endorses Heath Flora for state Assembly. As a retired California Correctional Peace Officer, I also support Flora. He is a dedicated advocate for law and order. Corrupt politicians destroy the public trust. I agree with Heath that we must expose them – then demand they be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. There’s a long line of California government representatives who have been prosecuted for criminal activity – although not severely enough.

State Sen. Ron Calderon was convicted this year for money laundering. State Assemblywoman Mary Hayashi was busted for felony grand theft. Sen. Leland Yee was charged with bribery, corruption and gun trafficking.

These capitol offenders get what amounts to a slap on the wrist. Heath Flora is firmly against powerful politicians being above the law. When they deserve a prison sentence, that’s what they should get – not probation or suspension without pay. Heath Flora will not put up with this nonsense. Let’s elect him so he can more effectively push for change.

People used to say, “You do the crime, you do the time.” Today, there’s two different arms of justice – one for the political elite and another for average wage earners.

Steve Hall, Ceres

Editor’s note: Leland Yee, 67, was sentenced to 5 years in prison. Mary Hayashi was fined $180 and three years probation for shoplifting. Ron Calderon sentenced to 42 months in prison.
