Amy L. Maris: Leslie Beggs committed to diversity of thought on YCCD board

An adjunct English professor at MJC, Leslie Beggs has proved herself a champion for the welfare and rights of students. The free speech incident at MJC on Constitution Day, 2013, which made national news, resulted in a needed change in district policy in part because of Beggs’ relentless research. The benefit of this extended to the educational system itself and to the public at large.

When I look at her priorities, I can’t help but wonder why The Bee article of Oct. 17, “Nine vie for four Yosemite Community College District seats,” highlighted her hobbies instead of her promise to keep regular office hours for feedback and questions or concerns from anyone, if elected. From her website: “Diversity of thought and due process for all” sums up her commitment to a healthy interchange in all intersections of education and makes her the clear choice for District 6.
