David Van Klaveren: Farm Bureau supports tax to fix our roads

The Stanislaus County Farm Bureau Board of Directors has voted to support Stanislaus Local Roads First – Measure L. This was not an easy decision, but it is the right decision for our members.

Each farmer and rancher in Stanislaus County uses local roads – whether to work on our farms and ranches, go to school, go to church, buy parts, feed our families or transport our products to market. Without a sufficient infrastructure, a thriving society and economy cannot function.

Our system of government asks its citizens to contribute to the health and welfare of our communities. We do not believe it is a sound practice to pay into a system and not be able to use our contribution to improve our communities. Our local investments to local, state and federal government need to come back and make a difference in Stanislaus County.

Measure L is a sensible and carefully designed plan that allows our leaders to access and leverage the financial contributions that our members and communities have already made to government.

David Van Klaveren, President, Stanislaus County Farm Bureau
