Loren D. Bauman: Trump failing; does he want to take America down with him?
Is anyone else struck by the irony of watching a man who promised to “make America great again” now scorching the earth with wild accusations about our fundamental American institutions? Utterly incapable of focusing on anything beyond himself, Donald Trump is now smearing honest journalism, professional pollsters, Republican leadership and even the electoral process itself.
He’s clearly setting up his followers to reject the upcoming election results, inflaming them with false delusions of conspiracy. How does this contribute to national greatness? It seems he’s trying to take our democracy down with him.
Why would he do that? Are there no causes he considers more valuable than his own ego? Has there ever been a more temperamentally unqualified presidential candidate? I think not.
