James R. McGrath: How do we explain Donald Trump to the rest of the world?

The USA is rapidly becoming the laughingstock of the world because we are so close to electing Donald Trump as president. I am former teacher who used to assign watching the debates for extra credit. Now, I hear from teachers that parents won’t allow their kids to watch because of how lewd and crude this year’s election has become.

What lessons do we want our kids to learn from the current election? If Trump doesn’t win, the election is “rigged”? If he does win, he’ll put his opponent in jail. It’s OK to demean women and minorities? Facts are now debatable?

It is sad and embarrassing when the majority of our Valley Republican lawmakers are willing to “take a gamble” on a race-baiting, fear-mongering, misogynist for the sake of change. When your sons, and especially your daughters, are bullied at school by the same behavior the leader of the Republican Party promotes, how are you going to explain your vote? When you Hillary bashers reply, please provide a link to any crime of which she has been convicted or officially charged.
