Pat Seefeldt: Tuolumne flows should be equal to when salmon were plentiful
This is addressing the continuing saga of river water. I believe the salt level in the Delta should be controlled. However, the issue of the salmon being harmed by the water flow is questionable. In 1965, I went to La Grange to watch the salmon run and it was unbelievable. At this time the new Don Pedro Dam had not been completed and it appeared the flow from the old dam was sufficient to bring salmon upstream.
I would like to challenge the Department of Fish and Game to provide a comparison to the decline in the salmon population to the increase in the striped bass population. Seems to me that if the drop in the salmon run decreases in comparison to the striped bass increase, the solution might be as simple as raising the catch limit and decreasing the allowable size on striped bass, decreasing the population. If the water flow from 1965 was sufficient, why not simply duplicate that flow for the health of the river, the Delta and the salmon?
