Steve Ray: Compromise isn’t evil, it’s necessary for democracy
In this divisive election season, many suggest the need for compromise and finding bipartisan solutions to the mess we’re in. Perhaps the politicos, pundits and, for that matter, all of us should aspire to this quote from author Hedrick Smith: “Compromise is not surrender; it is a pragmatic course of action envisioned by the Constitution’s framers to make government operate in a slow and deliberate manner, creating consensus rather than bowing to the capriciousness of any one faction.”
