Bill Gardner: Is your life worth 2 seconds?
Re “One dead, five hurt in Hwy. 120 pileup” (Page 4A, Oct. 6): I heard about the accident on 120 Monday and how CalTrans just wants to paint a white line; that’s not going to stop people from cutting into the lanes. To prevent accidents at the 120/Highway 99 interchange, they need to put at least a half-mile of K-rails down the middle.
Being a truck driver, I have seen people wait till they almost hit the middle barrier to swerve over just to get ahead of one or two cars trying to get onto southbound 99. I have seen people go through those plastic pylons on some roads. That’s why K-rails would be best and should stretch back at leasta half-mile. A life was lost Monday at that interchange due to people hurrying. More warning signs won’t help. That two seconds you save will most likely get you killed. Be safe.
