Bill Holly: Rojas, Martin need to be weeded out of YCCD board

Re “Rojas serves YCCD with distinction” (Letters, Oct. 3): For 20 years I have been proud to be an instructor at Modesto Junior College. However, views like those expressed in Trustee Lynn Martin’s letter supporting Abe Rojas convinced me to run for trustee.

Neither Lynn nor Abe seem to care that 70 percent of the 75,000 books in MJC’s main library were secretly thrown into the trash without even a book sale. She says this was an ordinary “weeding” process. “Carpet bombing” is a better term. This desecration of our library violated their rules on weeding, and violated law that requires trustee approval for tossing out public property.

Lynn and Abe recently voted for procedures that deny due process to students and employees who face accusations – so now they have no right to know who has accused them or what they are accused of doing! Lynn claims that it is a matter of law that Title IX forbids due process. To the contrary, it requires schools to accord due process to both parties (see Erhart lawsuit, page 12).
