Ralph Carpenter: Focus on the homeless

As a sitting member of the Stanislaus County Homeless Action Council who has objected since the beginning the use of the phrase "Focus On Prevention,” because as anyone with an ounce of sense knows, we cant prevent homelessness, I would like to know how the intellectual powers that be are going to prevent the loss of HUD funding that allowed so many homeless people housing over the past year? I’ve had more than one person come to me and ask "What am I going to do now? I was told this would be permanent housing?" Turns out "permanent" meant only nine months. Stop blowing smoke up our tails, put away the mirrors and face the reality of what this is. Instead of focusing on something that you know you can’t prevent, why not focus on something you can help? How about "focus on the homeless?”
