Daniel Brown: Do not accept Clinton’s mediocrity
Re “Do you want to elect Trump, Sandernistas?” (Page 9A, July 26): Sanders’ supporters, did you find Tuesday’s Bee editorial as lame as I did? Apparently, because Clinton has won, we are supposed to set aside our ideals and kowtow to her as the nominee of the Democratic Party, but that is not how political power works. We do not accept the half measures Clinton has proposed on healthcare and economic reform and we should make that clear. One lost election does not end the revolution. On the other hand, the election of Donald Trump could.
While our system of government is supposed to have checks and balances to keep a maniac like Trump in line, I would not want to have to count on them. In particular, Supreme Court appointments will be critical in the next administration. It could shape the future of America for decades to come.
I whole heartedly support continuing to push for Medicare for all, tuition free college education and Wall Street bank break ups, but Trump is not an alternative and a protest vote for a third party candidate will leave us with that alternative. We do not have to accept the mediocrity Clinton represents, but her election is better for the revolution than the alternative.
